Cicada video gets national attention

Posted on Monday 11 June 2007

The cicada video shot at the Oak Brook Park District for the IPRA webcast, theVOICE, has received national attention as it has been linked to on the popular www.cicadamania.com site! Some people might think of this to be trivial and insignificant in terms of membership value. But I think it’s pretty cool to see how the power of blogging has reached those outside our “little world” and brought attention to the association and the great things our park and recreation professionals are doing here in Illinois. Johnny B. from the Loop and Tom Skilling of WGN were talking on air last week about the cicadas so I sent them a link to the video…still waiting to see the video on the nightly news.

Did you know…

  • the IPRA blog has received almost 20,000 pageviews since the beginning of the year?
  • we have over 1,500 subscribers to the blog that receive email notifications every day that something new is posted to the blog?
  • the blog has also been read by people in every state except Maine, Mississippi and Alaska?
  • that IPRA sections also have blogs that share specific and timely information pertinent to those special interest groups?

Check out your section’s blog today and consider becoming a contributing author. The more that each of us share information and interact with one another, the more that we can learn and progress together. On each section blog there is a link explaining how to register yourself as a contributing writer, how to comment on posts and how to subscribe to receive email notifications.

Get started…

Training has been given to section leaders as well as some groups but if you would like another dedicated training session to go over your section blog please let us know.

If a crazy little video of some insects can get noticed who’s to say that all the important work that you do won’t get noticed too! As an IPRA member you have the opportunity and ability to reach out, connect, share and learn with others just like you. It’s up to you to make it happen.
