Day camp survey shows an interest for trainings

Posted on Wednesday 25 April 2007

A survey conducted recently by the Office of Recreation & Park Resources at the University of Illinois showed that the top priority in day camp training programs is child protection and mandated reporting (72% say critically important) and learning First Aid and CPR (71%). Camper behavior management, team building and activity leadership also ranked high in the survey.

Nearly 99% of those surveyed said that some form of training for day camp staff is done internally at their own agency. About 48% said they would be “definitely interested” in attending a 1.5 day “train the trainer” program. Another 43% said they “might be interested” in such a training.

However, scheduling conflicts and budget constraints tend to be the main inhibitors for people attending and implementing these types of trainings.
