Dodgeball tournament gets the best of IPRA staff

Posted on Wednesday 19 December 2007

As many IPRA members are getting ready for holiday festivities, spending time with their families, and possibly taking some time off from work - some of the IPRA staff will be recuperating - getting rid of some aches and pains.

Last Saturday night at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora, the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association hosted their first annual 2007 Dodge For A Cause Dodgeball Tournament. The tournament acted as a fund raiser in supporting the FVSRA in providing recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

What was meant to be a fun-filled night of recreating with colleagues turned into a reality check and motivator to get back in shape. The IPRA team of Matt White, Yvonne Illenberg, Mike Selep, Bill Wald and Michelle Hunziker was viewed as under-dogs from the beginning. However, we banded together and overcame many odds…and ended up winning a game or two.

Honestly though, we had a great time.  It wouldn’t have been fair if an IPRA team came in and won the whole thing so we took it easy on the competition. Yeah right!

Thanks to everyone responsible for coordinating the tournament. We plan to train really hard in 2008 and be back next year to take the trophy home!

Is your agency planning a cool new event or tournament that you want promoted on the IPRA blog?  Send us and email and let us know.  We’d love to post pictures or videos - and we’ll even make an appearance to show our support.

Remember team, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” and “If you can dodge traffic, you can dodge a ball.

Also, you must never forget the five d’s of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!
