The Geneva Park District is hosting a youth poster contest, to commemorate TV Turnoff Week 2006, the second annual event of its kind for the City of Geneva.
The contest is open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. All posters will be displayed in the Geneva Community Center throughout TV Turnoff Week, April 24-30. The winning poster in each age division, grades kindergarden-second, third-fifth and sixth-eighth, will be framed and displayed in the Geneva Community Center for one year.
To be considered, all artwork must be on a 22-by-28-inch white poster board and convey the theme “This is What I Do When I’m Not Watching Television.” Name, address, phone number, age, and grade level must be written on the back of the artwork. Drop off your entry at the Geneva Park District Administrative Office located within the Geneva Community Center at 710 Western Ave. Entries are due April 17.
National TV Turnoff Week was created in 1995 by TV-Turnoff Network, a nonprofit organization that promotes healthier lives and communities by encouraging children and adults to watch less television. For the second year in a row, the Geneva Park District will be joining thousands of organizations all over the world to encourage citizens to turn off their televisions and find more fulfilling and rewarding ways to spend time. Along with the youth poster contest, the Park District is offering free family classes each evening during TV-Turnoff Week, April 24-30. For a list of activities, visit www.genevaparks.org.
