Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Golf

Posted on Monday 14 November 2005

It is a little spooky, a little funny and really weird.

Glow-in-the-dark miniature golf has taken root after nearly two years in Hoffman Estates and continues to draw everyone from teenagers to corporate executives.

At the Putting Edge, golfers can choose to play through either a tropical island course or a distorted feudal land in the medieval theme course.

The expansive facility, in a shopping center at 2535 Golf Road, is one of the few indoor miniature golf facilities, which boasts two courses in the suburbs, so it’s become an attraction. There’s an arcade, a small cafeteria and eating area, too.

As for the wide range in age of its clientele, manager Allen Konchinsky says the Putting Edge is a hit with area companies looking for that unusual retreat for employees.

“We set up a special team building tournament, and it really works,” he said.

The wacky golf course also plays host to various Hoffman Estates Park District functions and Putting Edge employees work with some summer programs at local schools and parks.

“Certainly as a staff we have a good time over there,” said Michelle Lengerman, spokeswoman for the park district.

I wish there were some social events for the sections at the mini-put course. That would be pretty fun some night!
