Silent Auction to raise scholarship money

Posted on Wednesday 31 October 2007

Box of ChocolatesLife is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you might get - unless you bid!

Each year, the Illinois Park and Recreation Foundation holds a Silent Auction during the IAPD/IPRA Soaring To New Heights Conference. The purpose of this Silent Auction is to raise scholarship funds for students majoring in recreation administration and leisure studies at Illinois colleges and universities.

Last year, the Foundation raised approximately $8,000 and our goal for this year is to exceed $9,000. Help us reach our goal by donating gifts or services to the Silent Auction. All donations are tax deductible (IPRF is a 501-C-3 organization) and we will also accept monetary gifts.

But wait…you can do more! At Conference, you can bid on the great prize packages! With over 4,000 park and recreation professionals, commissioners and exhibitors expected to attend the Conference the pressure will be on to out-bid your friends and colleagues for your favorite items.

Help support students and donate today. Then bid on as many items as you can. For every bid you make you’ll be offered a chocolaty Hershey KISS treat to enjoy! Mmmm.

Click here to download a donation form. All donation forms must be received by November 30 to be listed in the Silent Auction booklet.

I think with some of the surplus in some of the larger sections coffers, a scholarship should be offered to Junior/Senior Rec Majors to attend confrence (Registration fee) If each section with a large enough surplus gives $500 it is possible that 15 to 20 or more students could attend the annual confrencethat may not have been able to attend in th past. The goal is to get aspiring young professionals involved and networking….anyway just a thought.
