On July 13, over 2,100 daycamp kids from various park districts and special recreation associations united at the Schaumburg Flyers game for “Special Recreation Day: A Celebration of Recreation for All”. This was the 3rd year that IPRA hosted this group outing which brought attention to the passing of Senate Bill 1881. This is one of the few day games that the Flyers have all season and it was great to see so many happy faces in the crowd all wearing their colorful daycamp shirts.
Karolyn Johnson, from the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, performed the National Anthem using sign language! This is just one of the many outings Karolyn signs at and IPRA always loves seeing her.
Brandon Harris, of the Northwest Special Recreation Association, along with Sen. Wendell Jones had the opportunity to throw out the first pitches prior to the game! Sen. Jones was instrumental in passing SB1881 and we thank him for his continued support.
Listen to Flyers’ General Manager talk about their involvement with IPRA.
There are still some extra tickets available for the July 20 Chicago Cubs game and the July 27 Chicago White Sox game. Contact Heather Weishaar for more information.
