Posted on Tuesday 16 October 2007

On this episode of theVOICE, IPRA's Matt White sat down with John McGovern of the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association to discuss special recreation in Illinois as well as other factors impacting parks and recreation as a whole.

Topics covered on this episode include:
- the "brain drain" in parks and recreation and special recreation
- the Medicaid Waiver service provider status
- the use of special recreation levies
- importance of professionals attaining certification and their involvement in IPRA
- why Illinois is so different when it comes to recreation for people with disabilities
- opportunities to influence the federal government
- the future of special recreation and why we need it

We would like to thank John for his time and commitment to IPRA.

What a great episode of the Voice. Thank you John for contributing to IPRA’s webcasts. For Directors and Superintendents if you are working with new professionals at your District, this would be a great way to introduce your staff to the SRA’s and how we work together to serve the community.

John, I gained some valuable knowledge from your video and I agree with continued training for professionals. You are an asset to the IPRA Board. One question, how did you get significant more time than me? You must have more pull than me. Great job.

Ron, it was my pleasure to do this so thanks for your remarks. I asked for 3 hours knowing I’d likely only get 1…and it worked!
