What do you want to know?

Posted on Monday 10 December 2007

Unfortunately, the December 11 installment of the Director Series was canceled due to low enrollment.

This poses a few questions:

  • What do you as an IPRA member want to know? What interests you?
  • What type of learning courses interest you? Round tables or lectures?
  • Are there another motivating factor that will get you to attend specific workshops? Too expensive? Time issues?

We want to hear from you. We want to provide you with continuing education that meets your needs.

MARC logoBe the 50th person to comment on this blog posting and IPRA will issue you a $50 MARC card to be used toward any IPRA educational workshop (conference sessions not included). This could be a great holiday gift for a member of your staff. Or just enough incentive to attend a workshop of your choice.

To be eligible, you must be an IPRA member and post a legitimate comment concerning workshop ideas, hesitations, or anything that expresses your wants and needs as it relates to IPRA continuing education.  Be sure to include your email address when leaving a comment so we know who to award the $50 MARC card.

    Hi,
First off, “Director Series” only attracts those who are or are soon to be directors, so you limit your audeince right off the bat.
How about a seminar on public speaking? Judith Leblein was awesome at a workshop in jan 2006

This edition of the Director’s Series looked to have outstanding speakers and content. For me, it did seem to ’sneak up’ timewise; perhaps earlier circulation of the topics and dates could help everyone in their planning.

The present time of year may be a challenge, as is perhaps the back to back scheduling with the Chicago Area Director’s Holiday Luncheon the next day. That latter issue was also present with the first Director’s Series seminar and the IAPD Legal Symposium.

Was it scheduled too soon after the November session? Is this planned to be monthly program? Could the registration cost be a factor - was there $99 of direct expense in this program?

Kudos to IPRA for creating the Director’s Series. The concept is both valid and valuable. Reschedule the 12/11 topics, and press forward!

The first director’s series session was really informative. The time constraint was a big factor. With the cost associated with the program maybe if would be alot easier if it were every other month. The next sessions topics are good. Lets keep going.

As a new Executive Director i am interested in any topics and networking time. The first session allowed me to meet counterparts and listen to their concerns and opportunities. Also, it was a time for ideas to take back to my park district. My recommendation is to continue the Director series.

My feeling about a sucessful “Director Series” is that the content should be very meaningful and typically unavailble elsewhere. For example, things like specific security practices available for public agencies or a few sessions on the insights of electronic (email) communications . And… there is nothing wrong with some group team building between directors, since there are many new ones who do not know each other.

For those of us who conduct our performance appraisals in December, the end of the year is an impossible time to do anything extra. Many of us are also trying to take the vacation days we meant to take throughout the year. Content looked good, try it again in 2008.

I am very interested in the Director Series. As others have stated both the November and December events piggy-backed with another event which would have caused two days out of the office in a row, which is difficult. And, as many of us know, December is a hard month to fit in anything extra.

I would vote to continue the Director Series with an eye on the IPRA, IAPD and PDRMA calendars. I appreciate the discussion topics and networking opportunities.
